Summary: Daniel is standing there, staring at Jack, alone, and feeling all the pain in the Universe
Info: Spoilers for ep 4, season 3, of Eureka, when Alison grieves for Nathan. I have used the idea of the Logic Diamond

Daniel looked at him, and tried hard to steel himself for what he was about to say.

"Daniel, I'm giving you this gift because, at last, I am free to..." Jack began. It had taken Jack a good long while to realise that his most lasting love, and relationship, was Daniel. He had tried to find his happiness with Sam, but though they were real friends always, it hadn't worked out between them... "I've never been great at saying this..." At that point sadness flicked across Jack's face.

Daniel knew Jack still felt guilty about not being able to open up his heart, even just a little, before Daniel Ascended... He hoped that guilt would be ended now, along with all the others...

"I love you." Jack said, and he took steps forward.

Daniel reached out to him, to touch his face, wrap Jack in his arms, kiss him.... But he couldn't. Tears were running down his face as he looked at Jack.

Jack had had the gift made for Daniel, a small logic-diamond pendant. Sam and co. Had let him have access to them, a project being worked on by the Labs, and he had got permission to take one, after it had been safety checked, as a gift for Daniel.

Daniel reached back to the desk, and let his fingers curl around the diamond, but he could not pull it from its interface. The interface that was allowing him to see Jack standing before him, the man he loved, the man who had died very recently, thus saving his planet. This time, this threatened explosion, this self-destruction mechanism, had claimed a victim. Jack O'Neill.

Daniel looked at Jack's warm, glorious eyes, his gorgeous face, and thought he never would be able to get by without them, without him. This vivid imprint was too much for him to bear, and in the privacy of his office, he cried for the lover staring at him. He cried so hard for Jack, the man whom he could never reach out and touch again...

The End
