"He didn't want to be in my life!" Daniel sat bolt upright, and called.
Immediately, Jack was there beside him with a hand on his shoulder, and he kissed that same shoulder as he said, "Daniel, you're dreaming again..."
"I know..." Daniel replied, his voice broken. "I saw it all again. Last time, he didn't want to me in his life..." Daniel looked to Jack. "Though I know why now... But, this time, even after he'd spent all that time with them, after everything that had happened to him, my grandfather didn't want to be in my life..." Daniel paused. "I saw it again... When we got there, the skulls all lined up..." Daniel remembered seeing the 13 skulls of so-called myth having been reunited, and he burned still a bit with the fact that the 'Giant Alien' Mayans hadn't been clear about whether these crystal things had been created by themselves, for allies, or made by an enemy. The biggest clue came from the fact that N.I.D agents later admitted they'd found them all in pretty much one place. "Jack," Daniel spoke again, "would they have just let him be taken, if we hadn't happened to send a M.A.L.P through for updates?"
"All that matters is that we saw, and he has you to thank. You came to Nick's rescue!" Jack replied, rubbing Daniel's back gently.
"Why do I care?? Why did I fight so hard?" Daniel nearly sobbed.
"Because you're a good man, Daniel, that's why!" Jack honestly stated. "Because of you, Nick is safe again... Because of you, the Mayans helped us track where the NID had taken him to... And they saw the light about the fact that kidnapping him was useless; he knows nothing of the Mayans Power... He's not the one who can tell them what they think they want to know..."
"You believe the Mayans then, that they can't teach us anything? That we know most of what they could tell, and we don't want to know what they can't tell us?" Daniel said, thinking of his 'stepson' Shifu, and how he had learnt from him that sometimes, it's not the best thing to read from the font of knowledge.
"I've been doing this Stargate Traveller job long enough, Daniel. We all know their words have a ring of truth..." Jack said quietly.
"Why is judgement never clear?" Daniel pondered, aloud.
"Don't beat yourself up about feeling angry with him, Daniel..." Jack stated earnestly, as he kissed Daniel's shoulder again.
"I told him!" Daniel said despairingly. "I told him I'd lived on another plain of existence too, that I came back, that it can be done!" Daniel cried. "But it wasn't possible this time, was it, Jack, so why am I still angry with him?"
"It hurts like Hell to be alone, Daniel, you know that!" Jack rubbed Daniel's arm, trying to sooth him.
"He left me twice, didn't he?" Daniel looked into Jack's warm eyes.
"Yeah, he did, Daniel..." Jack replied, wondering, and trying to be careful.
"He had his reasons though, didn't he?" Daniel looked to Jack.
"Yep..." Jack answered. "The first time, he was trying to protect you! He does love you, Daniel!"
"I know..." Daniel mused tiredly, leaning on Jack. "But I listened to a song the other day and it made me think, even if there is such a place as Heaven, and I manage to get there, if he stays with them, ageless and supposedly safe forever, I'll never see him again!" Daniel put his head in his drawn up lap and cried, feeling nothing but inner pain, and the feather light touch of Jack's fingers on his back, softly trying to assure him. "I'm not alone though, Jack, I know that..." He said, as he tried to calm down. "I'm sorry. I know you have similar fears."
"It happens when you spend your time working between Heaven and Earth..."Jack mused while he hugged Daniel. "I'll stay with you forever, Daniel..." Jack kissed him, knowing that they both knew purgatory.
"You can't promise that..." Daniel whispered tearfully, as the kiss broke apart, though he still felt Daniel's arms around him. "Everyone leaves... Mum, Dad, Nick, Sha're, Shifu, Skaara, Kasuf, Sarah... And I have to let them all go. I always have to watch it happen! I don't want to let you go!!"
"I'm here, Daniel... And you know how hard it is to separate us two!" Jack smiled, kissing Daniel's lips again.
Daniel let Jack guide him back to laying down in their bed, and though he would always have to live with the dread that, one day, they would be parted, Daniel let Jack's loving console him...
