Summary: Jack and Daniel have always been like Knights, standing side by side in Battle, and when the battle is done, seeing what one another is really like without all that armour to protect them
The others had gone home... The team had spent a rare Christmas away from the SGC together – why change the habits of a lifetime?
Jack walked into the room, behind the sofa, and rubbed Daniel's shoulders as he sat on the sofa.
Daniel looked up at him, and stole a kiss.
"Now's the time, huh?!" Jack grinned, moving to sit beside Daniel on the sofa, a gift in hand...
"Yep!" Daniel smiled, reaching for a gift that sat on the floor by the sofa.
This was the point at Christmas-time where they swapped 'for your eyes only' gifts, hoping that they would remain so always – Again, why change the habit of a lifetime? Considering the nature of their relationship, and how they both worked for the USAF – Jack and Daniel liked to live dangerously!
Jack gave the red sparkly paper wrapped gift he held to Daniel, placing it on his lap "Go on then..!" He encouraged, with another grin on his face.
Daniel put his hand on Jack's knee. "Thanks!" He said, as he then began to unwrap the gift. "Open yours, too! You'll probably say you don't deserve it, knowing you..!"
Jack looked at the gift, in snowflake covered wrapping paper. "Right." He said, trying to figure it out, as he began to unwrap the gift.
"You do deserve it, by the way..." Daniel said casually. "You don't just play hero, y'know..." He added, again casually, as he lifted his gift from its nest of wrapping paper. Oh, my! "Jack!" Daniel laughed, happily. "What made you think of these!"
"You!" Jack replied. "They're as hot as you, and vice versa!"
"Do you want me to wear these tonight!?" Daniel asked, playfully nipping Jack's earlobe with a kiss on his lips...
Jack turned to Daniel, kissing him back, on those lips... "Yes!" He breathed.
Daniel kissed Jack's stubbly cheek. "Okay!" He whispered, the red leather men's hot-pants beneath his fingertips.
Jack lifted the last fold of wrapping paper from his gift. "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Daniel!!" Jack exclaimed. "You want me to keep my feet on the ground while I play some sort of Arthurian hero for you!?" He pondered.
"I told you you'd tell me you didn't deserve it!" Daniel said, looking at the fine, light-weight shining silver chain-mail vest he'd bought Jack, before looking deep into the warm chocolate eyes of the man himself. Those eyes weren't just warm, he knew – They were so damn hot!
"I'm not a hero, Daniel..." Jack told him.
"Seeing as I know it's impossible to inflate that ego, I'll actually brave telling you that you are, for once in my life..." Daniel knew people thought he was a sap, overflowing with emotonal words, but, in some things, he wasn't immediately – Living in care had taught him that. His eyes didn't break away from Jack's for a second as he spoke to him, and his hand was back on Jack's knee. "Besides," He lightened the moment. "I've always had the sneaky suspicion you'd look hot in chain-mail, and I know I'm going to be right!"
Jack smiled, laughingly, and then, he leant forward and kissed Daniel again. "For you..." He whispered, against the skin of the man he loved.
***
Laying in bed, now naked, and still next to Jack, hours later, Daniel, unable to sleep, unlike his partner, recalled the dream he had had a couple of days before Christmas...
He knew he had watched too many Doctor Who Christmas Specials with Jack, as Jack liked to be reminded that sometimes scifi was just that, Science Fiction... Because in his dream, a man in a blue police telephone box to himself, Daniel, Jack, Janet, and Sam back to the era of Camelot... Daniel didn't know whether they and 'Doctor Who?' were the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, or Future... Future he guessed, as they were from the future, but he didn't like to think of the dark forecasts of the future in the film The Christmas Carol, and all their implications for his dream...
Though, there, among Arthur and Merlin, Guinevere and Morgana, Daniel learnt a lot; like, if this was not definitely a dream, then it would have meant that History had been wrongly represented again... Daniel's dream took him, Jack, and their friends, through many different phases Merlin and Arthur's life especially... From young twenty-somethings, when Merlin's magic was hidden from the world, to older more confident men, who fought side by side, as they seemed always to have done, and often the magic flew between them... There was no sight of a Lancelot... And Guinevere, who was called Gwen, seemed more interested in Morgana; while Daniel never saw the end of the dream; the end of Merlin/Myrrdin and Arthur's life together – And he hoped he would never see the one he'd read of in his books – But then, if this dream was anything to go by, it was about how differently things had turned out, how well the secrets of truest love had been kept... So his dream may indeed bode well... And he prayed to the God he still tried to believe in, even tonight as he lay awake, that the glories of those secrets of his and Jack's love, the closeness of he and Jack, would always remain, far into the future... It was, sappy as he knew it sounded, his Christmas Wish..!
The End..?

A52 took my Notes away, so I'll add this here, and hope it's a more appropriate place for a message from the Author:
* This is the first story I've written since I realised that I am not going to be able to fully afford my allocated tickets to an Event in Canada to meet RDA in 2010. It's not the first time I've had to give up tickets, and I hate myself for it! But hey, if I don't write fanfic, what else is there??
* Bradley James (Arthur, BBC's Merlin) is 25 years old, and Colin Morgan is 23. I think the characters they play are a little younger, but not that much - about 19/20/21 - Just to make it clear that this is NOT under-age slash! (Besides, I have set it a few years ahead of the televised show anyhow!)
