Summary: Jack and Daniel are expecting a baby, and no aliens were involved in making it so!!
Info: I don't know if this is strictly medically possible, but...
"Why is this the first I've heard of this?" Daniel asked shakily. "It should have been picked up... I've had enough scans over the years for Chrissake!"
"He's right!" Jack said.
"It should have been found before..." Janet said. "I'm sorry!"
"I've heard on the news about babies who are born like Daniel is, but it gets found a lot earlier, and operated on..." Jack commented.
"... Away... Operated away..." Daniel mused. "I'm not a proper anything..."
"You are, Daniel... You're more male than female!" Janet assured him.
"And yet, I have a hidden, and apparently, fully operation uterus!" Daniel said incredulously. "Why haven't I been bleeding every month my entire life!?"
"I don't know..." Janet answered honestly. "The body is a strange thing!"
"You don't need to say that again!" Daniel quietly, angrily stated. "Are we sure no alien did this to me?"
Jack threw Janet a look that echoed Daniel's question.
"We're sure. It does happen, Daniel." Janet replied.
"I'm bound to get interrogated at the very least! How exactly does a pregnant... person... cope with Gate Travel..?" Daniel pondered.
"We'll figure that out, Daniel..." Jack reached for Daniel's hand.
Daniel stared at Jack. "Even I'm not sure we should!"
"Do you want this baby, Daniel?" Janet queried her friend and colleague.
"It's not the baby's fault, how this all happened... It's not the baby's fault it exists!" Daniel said. "Yeah, I want it!"
Jack's heart leapt. He didn't know if he should be trusted with parenthood again, because he'd been the cause of Charlie's death, and he wasn't even sure, by the look of Daniel, that Daniel was going to let him be a parent to their child!
____
Daniel looked at Jack. "You're crazy!" He said. "Go into a baby shop?! I'm a pregnant man, or at least I think I'm a man!"
"You are!" Jack held Daniel's arms gently.
Daniel gestured at his pregnant stomach. "Are you sure? Maybe, you went with me because of my feminine wiles!"
"You are a man!" Jack re-asserted.
"At least now I know why I'm gay!" Daniel answered.
"Don't say that like that!" Jack replied. "You sound like one of those prejudiced..." His voice peeled away...
"Bastards?!" Daniel completed Jack's sentence.
"I'm sorry, Daniel!" Jack answered him. "So sorry!"
"For what? For what I am? For making me pregnant!?" Daniel asked.
"Are you sorry I did?" Jack asked Daniel.
"No!" Daniel answered honestly. "I don't know what that says about me, as a man... Must be my woman side answering you!" He said, self-berating.
"It's Daniel Jackson, the good man," Jack emphasised, "replying to me, isn't it??"
"Yes, Jack – I do want this baby!" Daniel said. "But I just don't see how I'm supposed to go into a baby shop... I don't look that much like a woman that someone won't notice, do I??"
"No, you do not!" Jack kissed Daniel. "We'll just find you a very big pullover... I still have one my mother knitted me about twenty years ago – It hasn't got any patterns on it, I swear!"
Daniel laughed. "I don't believe I'm saying this..." He sighed, but he still had a smile on his face, and he held Jack's hand. "But okay!"
"We won't get too much, Daniel, but we will need a few bits ready when you go in for the Caesarean..." Jack hoped he wasn't being presumptuous, or scaring Daniel about how close the due date was... He got scared himself then.
"Maybe, we should do all this over the internet! I'm not making any mistakes this time!" He was angry with himself.
"Jack, I have to go out... I have to see some of this stuff! We can't just get any old rubbish!" Daniel stated.
"Maybe, we should ask Sam and Janet to go shopping for us?" Jack suggested.
"So, at least we'd look more normal in the shop, if we went, too!" Daniel pointed out.
"That's not why I said that, Daniel... I love you! And, I don't give a crap who sees us!" Jack told Daniel truthfully.
"I know, but it wouldn't be a bad thing... I'll already look pathetic; I don't wanna end up being a story on Rikki Lake! I'll use the wheelchair... I'll let you push me around the store, I promise! Sam & Janet can help out. It's responsible to take my Doctor with me!" Daniel replied.
"I'll ring Janet and ask... Sam's probably at her place anyway!" Jack stated; making sure Daniel was sitting comfortably on the sofa before he reached for the phone...
____
"Have you been okay with today?" Jack asked, as he helped Daniel into the restaurant's disabled bathroom.
"I really don't think it's been too much, Jack! Except maybe, on my bladder!" Daniel replied. "What if the baby is like me, a man who gets pregnant, and has to pee sitting down, or, worse, a woman, who has to do the opposite?" Daniel asked Jack seriously.
Jack looked to Daniel. "The doctors are being extra vigilant, Daniel, & they will continue to be. Everything will work out..."
____
Jack sat by his and Daniel's bed, as Janet examined Daniel and his soon to be born child, when they all got home from the shopping trip, and lunch out.
"Everything seems to be well..!" Janet beamed a smile at her two friends.
"He's the smart one..." Jack said. "As if I need to tell you that! He grinned. "He said it was good idea to take you shopping with us..." He explained.
"It was a compromise!" Daniel explained further.
"Oh, yes?" Janet asked. She smiled again. "A good one, I'd say..."
"If this all goes well," Daniel began. "Do I have to give up this womb of mine afterwards?"
"Possibly not..." Janet sat on the end of the bed before her. "We'll have to wait and see how it behaves itself after the baby is born..."
Both Daniel and Jack nodded.
"Don't be so worried, Daniel! Same goes for you, Colonel O'Neill!" Janet Frasier said affectionately to her friends. "Try to keep on thinking positively!"
"Will it help the baby?" Daniel asked.
"The baby seems to be doing very well... Mostly, it will help you two!" Janet answered.
"I seemed to be all man once..." Daniel replied ponderously. "Now, I seem to be almost all woman!"
"You're still you, Daniel..." Janet told him.
"You're an amazing miracle!" Jack said, unusually open with his emotion. "Just like our baby!" And he silently prayed that he was right; that the baby would be fine... "You're more of a man than any man I know, me included. "You're brave to be putting yourself through this, Daniel..."
"At least we've convinced certain people of the truth; that this baby got here without any alien help..." Daniel replied, still laying down in the middle of his and Jack's bed.
"Yeah-sure-you-betcha!" Jack answered back.
"They probably think I'm just a woman who had a sex change, like that man on the news recently, who got pregnant with his partner!" Daniel half laughed.
"It doesn't matter what they think, Daniel... The baby, you, and me, we'll be safe, and we'll be together... I know I've screwed up before, but I promise you that!" Jack looked to Daniel.
Janet took that moment as her cue to quietly slip from the two men's bedroom.
____
"It's my turn to pick up Cassie from school, isn't it?" Sam asked Janet, as they sat in Jack and Daniel's living room.
"If you don't mind?" Janet turned to Sam.
"Of course not!" Sam smiled.
"Good!" Janet said happily. "She's expecting to see you there! And, I told the school it'd be okay..."
"Do you still think they'll be alright," Sam spoke of Jack and Daniel and their unborn child, "if we all come back here to dinner..?"
"I think they might even be grateful if you bring back the takeaway we all spoke of!" Janet laughed gently.
____
"Have you thought of any names for the baby?" Cassie asked Daniel, as she sat with him and the others, eating dinner.
"A few..." Daniel replied between mouthfuls. "The baby deserves a name and an identity..." He mused.
"Am I allowed to know the names?" Cassie asked.
"I like Quillan, and Clarice, because it's similar to my Mom's name..." Daniel shyly noted. "I also quite like Emma, Alannah, and Davy..."
"And I like Aoife, even if I think it is spelt stupidly!" Jack said.
"EE-fa..." Cassie sounded out. "How is it spelt?"
Jack looked to Daniel...
"A, O, I, F, E..." Daniel informed everyone...
"Any other names??" Cassie smiled up at Jack.
"Not sure yet..." He pondered.
Cassie smiled, and went back to her dinner.
__
"My God, Jack..." Daniel whispered.
"I know!" Jack smiled, trying not to cry, as he saw his new baby, and also thought of Charlie. You did it, Daniel... Thank you!"
Daniel looked up to Jack, tears in his eyes, too...
Jack held his baby girl's finger, and wiped away a tear with his other hand. "Hello, Clarice Aoife..."
"Clarice Aoife O'Neill-Jackson... That way, we take it in turns as to which name we picked, or is ours, goes first, and O'Neill-Jackson sounds better, the other way spell JON, which while actually being your name, is not very nice for a little girl who will probably grow up already confused." Daniel corrected and explained to his partner, as he looked down at their little baby daughter... "You certainly are beautiful, radiant, and joyful..." He told her, mentioning the meaning of the name Aoife, which her father Jack had chosen for her.
