Summary: Gene Hunt is working with his other British team-mates, late at night, but all he can do is think of the team mate he loves
Info: These characters are borrowed from the UK version of Life On Mars, and its Spinoff Ashes To Ashes

Gene wiped his hands on an old rag, and his forehead on his sleeve. He could feel sweat beginning to bead on his back, and he knew the team had been working too late again...

He often felt like he couldn't ever remember not being on duty, not working his balls off..! He'd travelled far in his life; he was a Mechanic of the British Army, who'd been assigned to the North of America, as part of the British representatives of the SGC Program – But even before his life literally got all scifi-y, he'd felt, somewhere in the recesses of his mind, different. Maybe, it was just being alone. His mother moved to America when he was a kid – No. He wasn't here to find her. He'd made his choice the day she left. To stay in England, with his Dad and his brother. He'd felt as though that was his duty, too. Loyalty and all that... But it wasn't like he'd seen his father and brother for years, so, a lot of gratitude there then!

When Gene met Sam Tyler, as the potential for a relationship unfolded, he let it happen... He didn't like anyone knowing he was gay, not really! Years of getting used to the Don't Ask, Don't Tell rule – and the knowledge that some Freudian cardigan wearing ninny would probably tell him he was gay because he was looking for a gentler way of life – Being brought up in a 'family' where he was encouraged to brawl with his brother, and do everything the tough way – and though he didn't think his father realised that his son, Gene, was gay, Gene now and then gave thought to the fact, clouded by drink though it was, that maybe, that was why his Dad tried to bring up two tough guy sons! Furthermore, the aforementioned cardigan wearing ninny would probably also say that Gene resented women, because his mother had left, and that, he wanted the approval of men because he'd been brought up by his chip-shouldered father! But Gene knew his own mind! He knew what he was still hiding from in regards to himself, and what he had learned to accept! By the time Sam came into his life, Gene was exhausted by being alone – So, he couldn't be bothered, at the end of the day, to deny how he felt about Samuel Tyler. Eventually, the Regs and his Life Lessons be damned! Gene shagged Sam Tyler, and continued, to this day, to do so! God, he could do with that man right now!!! As he threw a look Sam's way, and sent a very obvious message via the wrench handily laying in his palm, with a wink added to the recipe for good measure, a wink and a gesture of two that Alex, Chris, Ray, Samantha Stewart, and Shaz, did not see; Gene Hunt was even more determined to properly finish up this pain in the backside job and get home tonight..! He needed to get himself some Sam Tyler – God he had that man's arse on his mind – More than that later, please God! Despite working at the SGC, where false gods were a speciality on the menu of daily crud, Gene found he did believe in God. Sometimes, he thought, he could sympathise with those old guys, and gals, called The Ancients! Gene Hunt felt as though he had lived forever – But he hadn't felt alive for so long – Until Sam turned up, and gave him more to do with his evenings that dream about getting enough time to go down the local boozer! There were no pubs around here – But it wasn't the pub Gene wanted, not anymore, maybe not ever – He figured it had always been Sam Tyler. He felt a bit guilty because he knew he wasn't an easy man to 'live with', so, in a way, he hoped that wanting a Sam Tyler in his life, wasn't the only thing in destiny that had brought Sam his way – But now Sam was here, Gene knew that part of his mind was praying to God that he would never be asked to let Sam go!

The End
