Summary: The SGC has many visiting couples today, and Teal'c is glad he can openly be in a relationship
Info: In this AU, Michael Kenmore is and always has been Michael Kenmore, human, who is now recovering from a reversal of Wraith Transformation
Teyla Emagan was visiting the SGC with a contingent from Atlantis. This included her wife, Kate Heitmeyer, and their baby son, TJ Emagan. The couple were married in a traditional ceremony of Teyla's people, the Athosians.
Teyla had a son with Kanaan, a fellow Athosian, before she began her relationship with Kate – Torren John Emagan – Named for Teyla's father, and in honour of John Sheppard, himself now a father, who was visiting Atlantis when Teyla went into labour, and helped her give birth to her son! – was the result of a one night stand. Teyla knew even then that she loved Kate, but did not think that Kate realised, or would ever feel the same way. During her pregnancy, Kate was always there for Teyla. Preparing for Torren's birth brought them so much closer together, and, before he was born, Teyla and Kate were a couple.
Another couple visiting the SGC today were Tok'Ra husband and wife, Martouf-Lantash and Jadzia-Tegan. They were there to see one of the members of the Atlantis Expedition, Michael Kenmore. Michael Kenmore was a human, who had been infected with a transforming Wraith virus, the victim of the Wraith's desperation to continue their race when feeding on humans became more and more impossible. The Tok'Ra played a part in Michael Kenmore's recovery, once he had been rescued by his colleagues. In a similar manner to how they safely extracted Goa'uld from their rescued hosts, they had extracted the synthetic Wraith DNA – Returning Michael Kenmore to himself and to humanity...
Martouf-Lantash had, long ago, been utterly in love with Rosha, and her symbiote, Jolinar, whom, for a very short time, had taken refuge, hiding from an assassin sent by her Goa'uld enemies, in Samantha Carter... But some years after Jolinar gave up her life to save Samantha, and Rosha, of course, had already died, before that moment, Martouf and Lantash fell for their colleague, Tegan-Jadzia – The brave battle warrior who maintained her still gentle soul of a poet through everything she had suffered as a result of the Tok'Ra's very personal war with the Goa'uld. They would love a family of their own, like many here at the SGC today, but having Harsesis children was still a great concern, even though the Goa'uld threat had quite considerably diminished, and young Tok'Ra symbiotes, though work was still being done, were sadly, still just a dream and a hope for what seemed a distant future...
Today certainly was a day when many people were visiting the SGC. As part of the Tok'Ra contingent, Herakles, popularly re-christened so, symbiote known as Herakles, host as Herc, because of his and his cell's undercover work to bring down the Goa'uld Hera, long ago, an effort which had resulted in his first wife, Deinaira being turned against him. The host and symbiote basically shared the same name, and it did not bother them, as they were one of the oldest surviving pairings, and though they were two people, they were happy to be familial in their name. Herakles-Herc was escorting Martouf-Lantash and Tegan-Jadzia. Herakles- Herc, married again after the last big battle with the Goa'uld. Her name was Kirin-Serena.
As part of the Atlantian contingent, from a planet of trusted, long-term allies, Kahlan Amnell and her lover, a resistance fighter who once rescued Kahlan, another Cara, known to the SGC, were visiting, to help the Atlantis people report on all-things Pegasus Galaxy.
Teal'c walked to the quarters at the SGC, that he and his wife, Drey'auc shared. It had been a manic day, even if he had spent all of it on Base. He was, even for a Jaffa Warrior, quite tired indeed, and he was looking forward to curling up in bed with his dear wife.
It upset him that many here at the SGC did not have the freedom to openly be with their love and life partner – That they were not given shared quarters, as he and Drey'auc were, and space for any SGC aware member of their family. Even though many 'gay' couples here at the SGC, recently had been allowed the privilege of adopting their own children, and even though those that founded the SGC, had family members in gay relationships, those in such relationships were still expected to sweep most of their relationship 'under the rug', as he had once heard Daniel Ballard term it. – Still expected to live by archaic military denial. Everyone here understood their responsibilities, and that planets were very often at stake, but emotions were very much undeniable, and Tauri's government obviously did not trust the people of whom it already asked as much as life and death...
It was true that some team members whom had found themselves in love were allowed, grudgingly, for necessity's sake, and for the heavier weight that carried in the ongoing argument, to stay in the same teams, working together each day... It was also true to say that this practice was not without its foibles and certain issues to be avoided, but it was still the most practical, honest, true, and sometimes, the only way, to let things be...
SG21, for instance, who had just passed Teal'c in this section of the main corridor, he knew, though had never been told that this team happened to have several members who were in same sex relationships. The team were General Jeff Sinclair, Colonel Michael Garibaldi, (known as 'Biscuit', for some odd reason, Teal'c noted), Matthew Gideon, Astrophysicist, Doctor Peter Galenby, Major Zack Allan, Major Markos Cole, Medical and Research Doctor , Steffan Franklin, Captain Susan (of American and Russian Jew lineage) Ivanova, and Captain Elizabeth Lochley...
The SGC was so diverse these days, even though still a hushed secret; and mostly run by the 'American' Tauri. Teal'c walked past an almost entirely British, military team; Colonel Jack Harkness, of American and Scottish parentage, Captain Ianto Jones from Wales, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Major Alex Coburn of Seattle, USA, Lt. Rose Tyler of London, England, Doctor John Smith (whom Teal'c had once been reliably informed was named after a British brand of a drink called Lager!), his assistant Donna Noble, Scientist Amelia 'Amy' Pond, Captain Mickey Richardson (nicknamed by his team mates 'MickeyRicky'!) and field medic Martha Johansen, also all from England. Along with SG21, whom Teal'c saw earlier, SG17, was one of the largest team's the SGC had, and that team had recently been working in conjunction with another; SG17; Colonel Noah Bennett, Paleontologist Nick Cutter, Captain Stephen Hart, archaeologist Sarah Paige, Lt. Connor Temple, and Zoo-ologist Abigail Maitland.
He then also smiled politely at visiting Atlantis Expedition computer tech Peter Grodin, and his companion, Doctor Radek Zelenka, who walked by talking, and were followed by one of the many Security and Maintenance duos often paired off together to do the rounds of checking the Military facility, Chad Crews, and Danielle Reece. Danielle nodded 'hello', as did Teal'c, while Chad was so engrossed in what he was saying to Danni Reece.
Teal'c rounded the corner, and saw Mal Reynolds team, Hoban Washburne , River Tam, and Juddson Cobb, enter the Mess Hall, or SGC Canteen, whichever you preferred calling it. While exiting the room, he saw those on Secondment from United States Air Force Academy Hospital, a wing of which was dedicated to the work and patients that often, because of the hectic nature of things at Cheyenne Mountain, and what was asked of its people every day, spilled over from the SGC... Doctor Mark Sloane, his son, Steve, also a Doctor, and their friends and fellow Doctors, Marcus Greene, Doug Ross, Gregson Pratt, Luca Kovac, Kerry Weaver, Abby Lockhart, Madison Wesley, Norman Briggs, Jack-Scott Stewart, Jesse Travis and Amanda Bentley were all talking animatedly, mostly about their duties as those in charge of the varied Departments of the in-the-know SGC wing of The USAF Academy Hospital... They currently had, back in their care, a Lt. Anthony-Michael Picolo, whom Teal'c knew to have joined the SGC, after becoming the victim of experiments done on him by a selfishly shady, and thus, disbanded, offshoot of a U.S Government Agency.
As Teal'c continued to journey to his quarters, he saw Samantha Carter with her family. She had everyone around her. Her partner, Kelownan Jonas Quinn, their new baby son, her Tauri born Tok'Ran father, Jacob Carter-Selmak, Charlie-Kurzon, the Re'tu boy, now also a Tok'Ra, after a life-saving operation for both symbiote and host, whom Jacob-Selmak had become an adoptive father to, and one of Samantha Carter's maternal Aunt's, a Mrs. Jessica Fletcher, a widowed writer from Maine, which was somewhere in the US of A, Teal'c knew, who once became accidentally embroiled in an SGC situation, and had been, in her own way, and with the Government's permission, a member of it ever since...
The SGC had had many, many visiting members today. Some in same sex partnerships, some not. But other cultures, apparently, understood the importance of this kind of freedom, the freedom of true love, and the lie born of denying it all...
The End
