The Wedding Night (Of His Tears)

Summary: Daniel's romantic love for Jack is untold, and unrequited... On Jack & Sam's wedding night, Vala finds Daniel crying on the porch, & he tells her all... She finally understands why he wouldn't respond to her advances!
Vala sat beside Daniel, as he sat on the porch. "What's the matter, sweetheart?" She asked.
Daniel wouldn't look at her, and wiped his eyes.
"Is it all bringing back memories? Sha're?" She pondered.
"No." Daniel sniffed, feeling guilty that he wasn't crying about her.
"You can have the married kind of happiness again, one day, y'know, even if not with me..." Vala reasoned.
"No. I can't!" Daniel suddenly and briefly looked at Vala. "He's married now! I can't!"
"You – You wanted Jack?" Vala faltered. They'd been to Sam and Jack's wedding today, and now, along with Teal'c, and a few other guests, were staying at Jack's cabin. Sam had convinced him to honeymoon elsewhere...
"Still do!" Daniel managed to say, past the lump in his throat, as he looked at the stars... "But I know I can't... He wouldn't, and we couldn't betray Sam, even if he would..!"
"Daniel, this is why you wouldn't... With me..." Vala digested.
"Yeah, it's why I wouldn't..." Daniel said apologetically.
"I asked you if you were gay once..." Vala reminded him not unkindly.
"I lied when I gave you my answer..." Daniel said plainly, still looking at the stars.
"Oh, sweetheart..!" Vala said, empathising with Daniel... She patted his knee. Not making a move, just really feeling for him... She knew she could maybe manipulate the situation, get the man she truly loved now, but because she did, she wouldn't do that to him...
Daniel paused, and gripped the hand on his knee, even though he was afraid of giving Vala the wrong idea, and even though he hated admitting that he needed to borrow some strength... He hated himself even more as he began to cry... "I don't want to be here... Not here... Tonight! It's not fair!" He tried to explain.
Vala put her arm around Daniel's shoulder, and was glad when he leaned on her shoulder... She stroked his shoulder, with her arm around him, and her other hand, placed on one of his hands, and said, "I know, sweetheart... I'm so sorry... It isn't fair..!"
"On you either..." Daniel noted. "I'm sorry, Vala..!"
"I know you are, Daniel..." She told him genuinely. "I understand now... I'll just be your friend, I promise..." She assured him, as he cried on her shoulder...
