Things Would Be Different

Summary: Jack gets mournful, and Daniel and he talk while laying in bed together

"If we'd met years ago, things would've been so different..." Jack mused, as he and Daniel lay in bed together.

"Don't I know it..." Daniel mused, feeling the warmth of Jack next to him. "Sha're would probably still be alive, on Abydos, without me having been there to interfere..."

"You saved her life, Danny... No question of it. Besides, it was selfish of me to start this, I'm sorry." Jack said, brushing Daniel's hair with his hand...

Daniel looked up at him, and could see where his thoughts were going...

"I don't wish Charlie out of existence, but he didn't deserve what happened, and if I wasn't in the Military, that gun wouldn'tve been there for him to use!" Jack's voice became hoarse.

"So, you'dve chosen a life outside of the Military, but cheated on your wife with me?" Daniel asked, not unkindly.

"I know... I know, but at least Charlie would be around..." Jack stated.

Daniel hugged Jack lightly, so as not to bring attention; making Jack think of himself as weak. "Not if we'd been invaded by now... And, Jack, what happened that killed him; hard as it is to say it and see it, he did that... You didn't. You told him not to go near the gun, didn't you? And how were you to know he'd figured out the lock?"

"I should have..." Jack said, as he lay in bed, holding Daniel...
