Summary: Jack and Daniel make a decision/discovery about each other, while at Sam's wedding
"Are you alright?" Daniel asked, as he saw Jack looking across the room to where Sam stood with her new bride, talking to everyone...
"Yeah, are you?" Jack said, turning to Daniel, meeting his eyes.
"Sha're and I never really had a wedding day, so..." Daniel paused, sipping his drink, in the big ballroom, filled with afternoon sun...
"I must admit, it's brought back a memory or two..." Jack paused. "Of me and Sara, I mean..!" He added hurriedly.
"Don't worry, you're secret's safe with me..." Daniel said.
"Which one?" Jack joked.
"That you get sentimental sometimes..." Daniel explained, though he was, of course, referring to the fact that, once upon a time, Jack had had a thing for Sam, and she for him, quite obviously... Mind you, Daniel didn't know if that fact still stood... And, anyway, now Sam was married.
"Where's Vala?" Jack asked.
"Over there with her Muscles..." Daniel noted, pointing them out discreetly.
"Teal'c??" Jack mused.
Daniel nodded.
"I thought you and she were...?" Jack asked.
"Most people did, including me and her for a while..!" Daniel explained.
"Funny, I always thought it would be Cam, if not you..." Jack told Daniel.
"Cam is after Dr. Carolyn Lam..!" Daniel stated.
"Aha!" Jack grinned with understanding. "The General's daughter! That might explain a few things about Hank's trip to the cabin! Remember that??"
"I heard about it, Jack..." Daniel sipped more of his drink.
"I'm so glad I wasn't there that day!!" Jack smiled.
"And glad your cabin wasn't destroyed, I'd imagine..!" Daniel pointed out.
Jack nodded. "So, she's dating Teal'c?"He queried.
"He's her date for today, Jack... Beyond that, I don't know... I'm pretty used to 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell...'" Daniel stated.
Jack looked at Daniel.
Daniel knew Jack hadn't missed the reference... "So..?" He asked.
"So, what, Daniel..?" Jack asked. "Don't bother me..!"
Daniel sighed. That was something! "It might..." He then said.
Jack didn't miss that reference either...
A moment's thought, and silence, passed. Daniel was afraid of what this might mean...
"Still doesn't bother me..." Jack smiled.
Daniel let out the breath he must have been holding... But he still didn't know...
"I'm a retired old General, pretty much... Spend most of my time at my cabin, making sure there are no left over monsters lurking in the woods! That; and doing a lot of fishing!! So, what do I care?" He grinned, while patting Daniel on the back, daring to let his hand linger, rubbing Daniel's shoulder blades almost imperceptibly.
From that moment on, Daniel had his answer, and he prayed that he could look forward to a happy future, too... Yes. In spite of everything, he still tried to have some kind of faith..! Suddenly, he realised just how long it had been since Jack and he spent any time together, at the cabin or otherwise, and he longed to go home, with Jack... He longed to always be able to go home to Jack as well...
