Evan Lorne walked down the corridor, and waved at Daniel Jackson, who passed him.

He moved forward and into his quarters, thinking about Daniel, about everything the man was going through while they waited, hoping that it would be possible for Jack O'Neill to be healed.

Evan tried not to get involved with people directly under his command, but he didn't blame O'Neill or Jackson... Both men were beautiful to look at, yes. But it wasn't just that. They were literal pioneers, real heroes, and had both been through so much even before they met. That they were together, albeit discreetly, secretly, was not a surprise. They could reach one another... Evan collapsed on his sofa, and knew that that must be why Daniel looked so weary. He loved Jack, hell yeah! Everyone knew it... But right now, he felt that even he could not reach Jack! And even if he were the kind of man to talk to Heightmeyer, he couldn't.

Evan prayed that he'd never be in that situation; Then, he frowned at himself. He knew he shouldn't get involved with anyone here if he wanted to minimize the chances of that – But he didn't want to be alone, and he did have a 'date' tonight...

He'd do some painting, have a shower, and then, his date would be here... They'd sit out on the balcony, maybe, with beers, beers that had come through the wormhole from Earth just a week ago. Evan could drink now. Tomorrow was his rest day, one beer wouldn't hurt, even if he still had to be on call... But if his date stayed over, they'd have to be very careful when he left in the morning...

Lorne got up, and went to fetch his paints, and his latest composition. He sighed at that moment, lost in memory. He hadn't wanted to paint ever again when Carson (the first one) died... If he hadn't been painting, he could have spent some time with Carson, maybe made sure that the Doctor wasn't around to be the Medical Staff Member who removed the exploding tumours that killed him... It all sounded so ludicrous, but it was true... And, occasionally, Lorne still felt a pang of guilt... He knew Rodney McKay had similar feelings, but now, Rodney had the second Carson Beckett. It had taken Rodney a while, Evan guessed, to figure out, and then, to reassure the other Carson that his feelings for him were correctly placed. It had taken them both a while to admit that no one mattered more to them than each other, not Jennifer Keller, not Alison Porter, not even John Sheppard, who'd been there for Rodney through so many tough times while Carson was not around, through no fault of his own. It was no secret that Rodney relied upon, and cared deeply for, John. He always would. He thought it was a secret, but you only had to look at him, and see him and John together. Yet, when Carson came back, everyone could see that he and Rodney completed each other...

As he stood there painting, Lorne wondered if he would ever find a partner like that, love like that... If he even wanted to, or should..? Then, he looked up at the clock he'd had installed above the door to his quarters, and carefully began to finish up his painting session...

He walked into the bathroom area, stripped, and walked beneath one of Atlantis' showers. The water and the rays began to fall in unison, and he turned his attention to his date, who would be with him very soon. Perhaps, they would even share another nice, hot shower together in the next few hours! As the water and soap trickled down his body, Evan resisted temptation to cheat, and waited for his date... He was pretty sure it would be that kind of night. He'd never push things, but he acknowledged that he had good instincts.

... Then, the chimes of the doors to his quarters went, and Lorne turned off the shower, thus getting sweetly blasted with warm, dry air... After that, he called out. "Give me half a second!" And he pulled a towel around himself, dabbing his hair with another, and walked through, making sure the towel was safely in place, before he opened the door, just in case anyone other than his date was in the hallway...

He opened the door. "Hi." He grinned at the lovely smile that met him.

The other man quickly walked in, so they didn't have to be seen when one of them was half naked... Sure, men in the Military saw each other naked in barracks and shower huts, but they didn't just 'drop in' on each other like this during personal time off... Okay, so they might be able to get away with the 'bad timing' excuse once, but it wouldn't always pass muster, and that was why meeting places, etc, would always have to remain varied...

As Evan's doors gave the couple some privacy, Evan noted his friend looking over at the uncovered artwork in the corner, the paintwork he'd not long done still drying... He walked up behind his date, and mischievously leaned in, asking "Would you like me to paint you?"

The other man laughed gently. "How literally do you mean that?" He half joked, then added, looking at Lorne's reaction. "After we've played Twister, perhaps..." He turned around fully, looking a little shyly at Lorne, meeting his eyes, after a gaze that had travelled upwards.

Evan smiled again. "I'm glad you liked that..!" He stood with his hands on his towelled hips. "What do you think – Should we have the beer before, after, or during..?"

"Won't it get sticky enough during the game..?" The tall, slightly younger man asked bravely.

"If that's what you want, then I'll happily arrange it, as well as you and myself..!" Evan replied.

"There's a reason those mats are made of plastic, isn't there..?" Lorne's soon to be partner hinted.

Lorne undid his towel, and let it drop, watching his date as his date watched him. He then walked toward the man; He took the fellow airman's hand, and let it rest on his own bare torso. Then, he took the man's other hand, and looked into those wonderful eyes of his, before they mutually agreed to let that hand rest on Evan's naked hip, for now... "Yes, there is..." Evan whispered hotly, into his almost lover's ear... "Are you ready to get naked with me?"

"Absolutely..." The man in the clinch with Evan answered him.

Evan Lorne smiled, and the kiss with his new lover began... "I won't forget the Twister mat, don't worry!" He told him, as their kiss continued.

"Neither will I..." Replied Evan Lorne's new date...

The End
